1. Who we are
MatchMark ("we," "us") operates matchmarketplace.org, a platform that connects families in the Seattle area with current University of Washington students for one-on-one sessions.
MatchMark is operated from Seattle, Washington. To contact us about privacy, email matchmarketplace@gmail.com.
2. The short version
- We collect contact and profile information from the adults who use MatchMark.
- We do not collect, store, or process any information about your child.
- We never sell your information.
- We do not run advertising or advertising trackers.
- Mentors cannot see parent information. Parents see only what a mentor chose to publish on their profile.
- A real person, not an algorithm, reviews every connection.
3. Information we collect
From parents
- Name
- Email address
- Phone number
- The structured details of any contact request you submit, such as subject area, grade level, and session format
Parent contact requests use fixed fields only. There is no free-text field, and we do not ask for or store your child's name, age, gender, school, or any other information about them.
From mentors
- Name
- UW email address (a @uw.edu or @u.washington.edu address is required)
- Phone number
- Major, year, and school
- Biography, achievements and coursework, relevant experience, availability, and languages
- Profile photo, if you upload one
- The content of any offerings you post, including title, description, topics, grade levels, format, and rate
Collected automatically
- Authentication session information, stored in a cookie so you stay signed in
- Standard server and security logs generated by our hosting and security providers
We do not use analytics or advertising trackers.
4. Why we collect it
| Purpose | Information used |
|---|---|
| Creating and maintaining your account | Name, email, password |
| Verifying UW affiliation | UW email address |
| Publishing a mentor's public profile | Mentor profile fields and photo |
| Making an introduction between a family and a mentor | Name, email, phone |
| Contacting you about your account or a request | Email, phone |
| Preventing abuse and automated signups | Security and log data |
| Running background checks before a connection | Mentor identity details, provided by the mentor directly to our background check provider |
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising.
We use the following service providers, who process information on our behalf:
| Provider | What it does |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication, and file storage |
| Vercel | Website hosting |
| Resend | Sending account emails such as confirmations and password resets |
| Cloudflare Turnstile | Blocking automated signups |
| Checkr | Background checks on mentors |
Each provider receives only what it needs to perform its function.
We may also disclose information where required by law, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of a person, particularly a minor.
6. What the other party sees
This is central to how MatchMark works.
Mentors cannot see parents. A mentor cannot browse families, see contact requests, view a parent's identity, or contact a family. This is enforced in our system, not merely by policy. Every connection begins with a parent.
Parents see a mentor's published profile. That is the information the mentor chose to put on their profile and offerings.
Phone numbers are never shown to the other party. Phone numbers are stored separately from public profile information and are used only by us, to coordinate an introduction by phone.
When a connection is made, we share the mentor's name and email address with the parent. What happens after that, including scheduling, sessions, and payment, is between the two of you and is outside MatchMark.
7. Background checks
Before a mentor can be connected with a family, that mentor completes a background check through Checkr covering identity, criminal record, and the sex offender registry.
The mentor provides their information directly to Checkr and pays Checkr directly. We do not collect or handle that payment.
We receive and store only whether the check cleared and when. We do not receive or store the contents of a background check report.
8. How long we keep it
We currently retain account and profile information for as long as your account exists. We do not have an automatic deletion schedule.
You can ask us to delete your account and information at any time by emailing matchmarketplace@gmail.com. We will confirm the request and act on it.
Some information may remain in our providers' backups or security logs for a period after deletion, according to their own retention practices.
9. Your choices
You can:
- View and edit your profile information at any time while signed in
- Ask us to delete your account and information, by email
- Ask us what information we hold about you, by email
- Close your account at any time
Washington residents and residents of other states may have additional rights under state privacy law. Email us and we will honor any right that applies to you.
10. Children
MatchMark is for adults. Mentors must be current UW students. Parents and guardians must be adults.
We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we do not store information about the children a family is seeking help for. Our request process is deliberately built so that a child's name, age, and school are never entered or stored.
If you believe a minor has created an account, email matchmarketplace@gmail.com and we will remove it.
11. Security
Access to information is controlled at the database level rather than only in the website. Public profile fields, private contact details, and administrative functions are separated, and sensitive fields cannot be modified by users.
No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you as required by Washington law.
12. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. For significant changes we will notify account holders by email.
